Zen Alabeedin AlSeed

My name is Zen Alabeedin a 17-year-old from Syria, I have been living in the UK for the last 5 years, I study the following A-Level subjects at Wykham Park Academy: Physics, Engineering, Maths, Chemistry, and Arabic, it has been really exciting stage of my life since I moved to the UK where I managed to learn English as my second language and catch up with the GCSE course work and achieve 5 A* in Maths, Physics, Maths, Chemistry Biology and Arabic

I am interested in mechanical engineering and am about to start my university application for a mechanical engineering master's at the following universities: Imperial College London, the University of Cambridge, the University of Warwick, and the University of Loughborough. I am also applying to a degree apprenticeship programme at Aston Martin and Jaguar Land Rover.

One of my recent achievements that I am proud to share is completing my Aspirations Employability Diploma Project, where I produced research on hydrogen-powered vehicles involving many engineering concepts to then present to Jaguar Land Rover. This experience has taught me how to analyse primary research sources and produce secondary research, and I have learned how to work as a team with teammates I haven't had the opportunity to work with before. Taking the initiative to be the project manager of my group allowed me to set an example of leadership and hard work, which, with team effort, led our group to win the competition.

My Main Hobbies are Mountain Biking and Watching Formula 1. I also love watching YouTube videos from CarWow and ArabGT on the latest about the automotive industry.

I am also In the process of designing a 4 stroke engine on solid works in my engineering class. Other hobbies include drawing, going to the gym and website design

Shontay Anderson

"Studying A Level engineering has increased my interest in an Engineering career. My engineering principles unit, where we studied mechanical problems such as fluid systems and loaded components along with physics topics such as static and direct current problems, electronics and magnetism, has stirred my passion for the mathematical side of engineering. From this, I researched Shaikh Sir's Diploma Classes Mechanical Problems, and watched YouTube videos about physics lectures like OpenStax and Engineer’s Academy to gain a better understanding of alternatives to solving engineering equations.

One hobby is Rubix Cubes. The complexity of such a small toy with the multiple algorithms to solve it intrigues me and has helped me be more intuitive with my decision making as well as increased my reaction time. I have access to Computer Aided Design software, Solidworks - consequently, using this opportunity to my advantage to develop my own functional cube as a personal project. This increased my skills with CAD to create complex ball bearing designs.

I was invited to an Engineering Conference at Magdalen College School where universities such as Oxford, Imperial and Cambridge spoke about their experience on the engineering course, including a a speaker on what it is like working in F1, and another who developed a machine which allows organs to live outside the body for up to 24 hours.  This conference further inspired to become an engineer as it allowed me to understand the impacts engineers have on the world around us and impact on many lives.

Lucas Tiago Fernandes Sousa

I take Physics, Maths and Engineering at A level and hoping to do Mechanical Engineering at university. I work at Mcdonald’s around 3 times a week on the side of school. I also go to the gym whenever i have any free time. I believe that it is good to have a good work-life balance so i try balance all these three things. Within school life itself i am deputy head student at Ashlawn school, volunteering to help young students and staying after school to help with events held by the school. At work i volunteer to stay later if needed and pick up shifts and always treat customers how i would like to be treated.

I am also part of the neurodiverse community at school and have campaigned successfully to bring about accessibility-friendly policy and practice changes at my school. An achievement that I am most proud of is learning to manage some difficult social situations due to being autistic and a person of colour. The challenges that I have overcome have been reliant on my being tenacious and determined to be successful even when others have made it more difficult to do so. It has been a hard-won but worthy personal achievement to develop my self-confidence and perseverance.

Jonathan Bikouta Kapoko

I’m Jonathan, a student with a passion for F1. My journey has been shaped by a deep curiosity for the sport built from watching it with my family when I was younger. I’ve dreamed of working with cars since I was younger and still currently working toward that goal. I’m a hardworking student who loves and really enjoys working in a team. I’m a great team player who also does not mind taking the lead if required.

In my free time, I enjoy playing football. I currently play for Mk Athletic a local team in Milton Keynes. I have been playing football for 7 years now and it has really helped me develop my team working as a whole team of separate ideas have to come together in order to get the best result they possibly can. I also have a part-time job at footasylum. During my time there my communication skills have also improved. All these skills that I have gained have helped me become the person I am today.

I’ve had some experience working with vehicles as in July I had a work experience placement at S&P Autos a mechanic shop in Bletchley. During this time I was mainly watching but on occasion given the opportunity to have a hands-on experience as I was helping out with some parts of servicing a car or even removing tires. I really enjoyed the experience and it’s solidified my dream of working with vehicles hopefully in Formula 1.

Akil Ruzindana

To describe myself concisely, I am a motivated learner. In fact, Im currently studying four subjects at A-Level. Of those subjects, I study Maths, Biology, Computer Science and EPQ. The reason for this, I intend on studying a STEM related subject at a high level of education. Alongside this, I plan on developing a greater understanding of STEM related jobs through work experience, internships and networking in general. In terms of my hobbies I do coding, graphic design, editing and exercise. As well as this, I have a part-time job as a sales associate for Ralph Lauren. Despite the fact this job isn’t related to the field I would like to work in, I still feel as if though it has provided me with transferable skills such as problem solving, communication, team-building and strategic planning.

Olajide Mabogunje

"My name is Olajide Mabogunje, and I currently study A-level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at The Radcliffe School, Wolverton. I aim to study engineering at the degree level, as I am a mathematical person with a keen interest in the sciences. Outside my educational life, I am interested in coding and website development, and I possess beginner-level HTML, CSS, JS and Python skills. I enjoy swimming, reading (murder mysteries), anime, drawing animated characters, and gaming.

My education journey has been unorthodox. I spent six years from 2016 in Nigerian secondary education, where I accomplished numerous things, including being a semi-finalist in Child Genius, Nigeria, reaching the top 100 in the third round qualifiers of the South African Mathematics Olympiad, being Valedictorian of the graduating class of 2022, Caleb International College, Lagos, Nigeria. I also had several leadership positions, such as Assistant Head-Boy in Senior Secondary School and an Ambassador in Junior Secondary School. I spent my free time in clubs such as STEM, media, literary clubs, etc.

I earned my WASSCE (GCSE equivalent), which allowed me to pursue a four-year bachelor's degree at the university. I got accepted into Nigeria's number one Private university( Covenant University) but decided to move with my family to the United Kingdom. I relocated for two reasons, to allow myself to mature, as I was sixteen when I finished, and to explore the plethora of opportunities available abroad. Now I hope to complete my A-levels and go to university as the best version of myself."
