The Opportunity

A door into trading and technology — opened for you.

The Mako Insight Day gives 18 students an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at one of the world's most respected proprietary trading firms. This isn't a careers fair — it's a full day of real conversations, a live trading simulation, and direct access to the people who work there.

Ahead of the day, all delegates join a Zoom call on the 2nd of September so you arrive prepared, confident, and ready to make the most of every session.

No finance experience needed. If you're a STEM student from an underrepresented background and you're curious about where your degree could take you — this day was built for you.

About Mako

Who you'll be spending the day with.

Mako is a global proprietary trading and technology firm — meaning they trade their own capital, using technology and quantitative research as their edge. They operate across major financial markets worldwide, with offices in London, Europe, and Asia.

Unlike large banks, Mako is tight-knit and meritocratic. They actively recruit from STEM backgrounds and train the people they hire — prior finance experience is not what they look for. What matters is analytical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to learn fast.

This Insight Day is a direct pathway into their internship and graduate pipeline. That conversation happens explicitly on the day.

FAQs

Quick answers.

Not at all. Mako recruits based on analytical potential and the ability to learn — not prior industry knowledge. If you're a strong STEM student with curiosity and drive, you're exactly who this day is built for.
Any quantitative or technical degree — Maths, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Data Science, or similar. If your subject has a strong analytical component and you're unsure, apply and tell us about it. Don't self-select out.
There is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided - you just need to be able to get yourself to Central London!
Yes — explicitly. The final session covers graduate and internship opportunities at Mako and how to apply. This Insight Day is designed as a direct pathway into their pipeline. Making a strong impression during the day matters.
If you're unsure, reach out to the Aleto team before 19 July rather than not applying. We'd rather review your application and make the call. Don't assume you're not eligible without checking first.
