Growing into a Purpose-Driven Leader
Joshua joined the programme not knowing exactly what to expect, but knowing he wanted to be part of something built for him. What he found was a space where Black talent in the energy sector wasn't an afterthought — it was the entire point. He left as an EV Manager at OVO.
Finding the Right Space
From day one, Joshua immersed himself in everything the programme had to offer: the masterclasses, the mentoring, and the group projects. The weekly peer sessions became a powerful source of connection and shared growth. Watching even the quieter voices in the group step into leadership roles reminded him that everyone in the room had something to offer — including him.
A Turning Point
The real shift came during a high-pressure presentation challenge. It was nerve-racking — but it was also the moment Joshua realised he could actually do this. Public speaking had previously intimidated him. By the end of that challenge, it energised him instead.
Inspired by the programme's emphasis on ownership, strategy, and excellence, Joshua made a bold move: he applied for a management role he would previously have second-guessed. He got the job — stepping into a new role as EV Manager at OVO.
This programme gave me the tools, the confidence, and the clarity to go for it — and to get it.
Now an Ambassador
Today, Joshua is more than a participant — he's an advocate. He actively encourages future cohorts to apply, speak up, and claim space. His advice is simple: "Show up fully. You'll be surprised by what's already inside you."
His message to the programme partner is equally clear: keep the in-person masterclasses, expand access, and don't change the honesty and vulnerability that made the experience so real.
