Nathan came to the programme with a passion for Formula One and a history of rejections from F1 roles. He left with something far more useful than a single career path — a completely different way of thinking about what his strengths are worth and where they could take him.
Starting Out
Nathan discovered the programme through his mum, who knew about his ambition to break into F1 and forwarded him the opportunity. At the time, he had faced multiple rejections when applying for F1 roles and was beginning to question whether he had chosen the right degree. The hybrid format of the programme — combining online and in-person sessions — made it particularly appealing.
Finding the Right Match
The real shift came when Nathan realised the importance of having the right mentor. He started with a technical mentor, but after several months the fit wasn't quite right. With support from the programme team, he made the bold decision to switch — a move that was daunting but transformative. His second mentor, with a background in HR and operations, gave him a fresh perspective entirely. Together, they worked through Nathan's self-doubt and helped him see that his leadership skills could be just as valuable as technical expertise in getting to where he wanted to go.

A Broader Vision
Nathan's two mentoring relationships gave him a blend of perspectives: technical insight from his first mentor, and a broader view of leadership and management opportunities from his second. The result was a stronger skillset, more confidence in networking, and a wider vision of what's possible in F1 and beyond.
He is no longer focused on a single narrow route into the sport. Instead, he is exploring both technical roles and operational or management positions where he can bring his engineering knowledge together with his leadership qualities. His vision has shifted from following a rigid plan to pursuing opportunities that align with his actual skills, strengths, and passions.
Nathan's advice to future delegates: "Plan your sessions, set clear goals, and lead the conversation. Don't just see your mentor as an F1 professional — treat them as a sounding board. Build a real relationship, ask questions, and get to know them as people too."
